Cleveland Bound!

Hello Bloggers!

I know that I promised an update on my jaunt to Cleveland for Sliders birthday bash, so it is time for the low down.

Slider had everything arranged before I even arrived at the airport.  I was told when i arrived at the baggage claim area that the limo driver would be waiting for me.  As I was walking there, the looks I was getting would make you think that they have never seen a giant Green Monster in the "City of Rock".  Finally the baggage claim area was ahead and I saw a neatly dressed gentleman with a sign the read "Wally".  Sure enough it was the nice shiny ride that I was waiting for.  Twenty minutes later we were pulling up in front of my hotel.  I checked my bags with the concierge, and now it was time to head to the front desk to check in.  On the way up the spiral staircase I gazed around the room taking in all the gold trim.  I don’t think that I have ever seen this much gold trim in a single room.  The more I examined my surroundings I could not believe that Slider had set me up in a hotel like this!  As I approached the hotel worker he asked me if I was checking in, and if so he needed my name.  I told him "one room under Wally the Green Monster".  He looked down on his monitor, looked back up at me and said he did not have a reservation for me.  Of course he must be wrong!  I picked up my cell and gave a call to my friend Slider who then went on to tell me that the driver had dropped me off at the wrong hotel and he would be right over to pick me up.  Too good to be true!!!!

I was able to take a short nap before three of my friends Gapper, The Oriole Bird and the Pirate Parrot showed up.  The first night we were able to head over to Jacbs field to survey the area for Sliders birthday that was going to take place at the Wednesday afternoon home game.

Do you ever have that feeling that as soon as you put your head down on the pillow at the end of the night that the very next second it seems as though your alarm is going off?  Well, that is how quick 8:00am rolled around on Wednesday.  We had to be up so early because it was a 12:00 noon game that day.  The day was very eventful!  Full of musical chairs, dancing on dugouts, the 7th inning stretch, and of course Sliders birthday cake with a rousing edition of Happy Birthday.  Wow, was I pooped at the end of the day!

That is it for now from the "Monster" side of things.  I will check in again as soon as I can!

All-Star Break!

Hello Red Sox Nation!

This is your favorite New England mascot checking in.  It is hard to believe that we are already past the half way point in the 2006 season.  We could not have asked for a better first half as our Sox are in first place in the AL East!  The race is heating up, and it is going to be a great stretch run!

Things have been very busy on the "Green Monster" side.  Just last week I was able to see all of my furry friends from around MLB at the 2006 All-Star Game in Pittsburgh!  It is always nice to ctach up with everyone.  The Midsummer Classic is also a great time to meet & greet with fans from all around the league.  From Fan Fest to All-Star Monday I was a very busy monster!  One of the most exciting parts of the All-Star festivities is the Mascot Home Run Derby.  This year was full of power hitters such as Lou Seal (S.F. Giants), Mr. Met (N.Y. Mets), Screech(Washington Nationals), Pirate Parrot (Pittsburgh Pirates), myself and of course the defending champ T.C. (Minnesota Twins).  Once again T.C. did not disappoint!  He was able to muscle out 10 home runs for the win.  I need to get practicing in April next year as I was only able to nudge one out over the 230 foot mark for my only showing of the morning.  Next year will be a different story!  Trust me!

This week is going to be a busy one!  I will be flying over to Jacobs Field in Cleveland to attend the birthday party of one of my good friends, Slider.  As soon as I return to Beantown I will make sure to let you know all the fun that was had!

Opening Week and Philly Cheesesteaks!

Hello Wally Bloggers~

Spring is in the air and baseball is in full gear! A lot has happened since I last wrote. What has happened you may ask yourself? Well Opening Day at Fenway that is! What a great day it was. Not only did we win, but the team honored the 1946 Red Sox in our pre game ceremonies. I remember just like it was yesterday watching from the Green Monster as great players such as Pesky, Ferriss, and Doerr rode by. To see them return to Fenway Park, boy what a moment! The homestand was great! It was especially special to see my second family, the Fenway Faithful, once again! We have the best fans in all of sports and I am proud to be the leader of Red Sox Nation.

I was getting very excited as Saturday approached because this was going to be the day that my mascot friends came to Fenway to visit with me and the fans. This was also going to be the day that Lefty & Righty, our two new additions to the Red Sox family, would make their debut in our storied ballpark. Lucky (Celtics), Pat Patriot, Blades (Bruins), and Lefty & Righty made it a great day on Kids Opening Weekend presented by Hood. From dancing on the dugout to the 7th inning stretch it was such a special day. Lefty & Righty have also told me that they will be visiting the ballpark for every day game this season, so make you keep your eyes peeled for them!

After the homestand wrapped up, it was time to go to one of my best friends? birthday parties, the Phillie Phanatic! Gapper (Reds), Mr. Met, T.C. (Twins), Slider (Indians), The Bird (Orioles), Lou Seal (Giants), Parrot (Pirates), Sluggerr (Royals) and myself were there for the festivities at the game on Sunday. The Phanatic didn’t even know we were there, so when he game onto the field he was SOOO surprised! His birthday wish was to play a game on the field that day with all of us, a little National vs. American League battle. I did my job at bat knocking a potential double through the left field side. As I was rounding second I noticed a Yankee fan wandering around in right field. As I ran towards him to chase him off the field the Phanatic tagged me out! It was a plant! The Phanatic always has tricks up his sleeve. The game was tied coming up to the last batter for the National League. After a 2-1 pitch the Phanatic hit a walk off homerun to top off his birthday celebration. After the game it was time for cake! All the Phillies fans in attendance sang happy birthday and then the Phanatic blew out his candles. What a great weekend it turned out to be in "The City of Brotherly Love!"

The next round of games at Fenway are right around the corner. I am getting super excited as I write this because it is just under 24 hours before the Yankees come to town to take on our new look Red Sox!

Till next time bloggers!

Go Sox!

Offseason?

Where did the offseason go?  It seems just like yesterday that I began my voyage on what looked like the endless days of winter.  Now as I sit here I begin to realize that Opening Day at Fenway is two weeks away!!  I am excited and waiting for the moment that we open up the gates here on what is looking like another successful season for Red Sox Nation.

You may be asking yourself what did I do with the time off?  Well, there was no time off.  With appearances all over New England I had the chance to visit Red Sox fans young and old.

These appearances did not stay within the limits of the New England states, but also expanded all the way down to sunny Florida!  That is right, 85 degrees and sunny everyday!  On March 4th I was able to visit with the residents of Sanford Florida for their Little League Opening Ceremonies.  I could not have expected a better welcome than I received!  It just goes to show you how loyal and faithful Sox fans are all over the Country.  The "fun in the sun" did not end there either as I made the voyage to Fort Myers to take in some Spring Training games from March 11th-18th.  It was my first time to "The Fort" and what a great time it was.  From the great ballpark to the hospitality of all the fans, I am counting down the days until I get to spend some time down there next March!

That is it for now from me.  Next time I check in the team will be in full gear looking to bring another World Series Championship to the Fenway Faithful!

Keep Your Sox On!
